Landing home to Te Tairāwhiti from South America in 2018 brought forth deep reflection, the search for identity and an emergence of simmering creativity.

Finding solace in a passion for the therapeutic nature of the creative process Beka delved into the Expressive Arts Therapy realm completing a PGDip Art Therapy through Whitecliffe School of Art and Design in 2020 whilst also studing Māori and Indigenous Arts through Te Wananga o Aotearoa concentrating on Rauangi (Visual Arts).

Falling into an Installation at Te Tairawhiti Arts Festival 2020 sparked interest in creating space.

‘All the Colours’ was based on the repetitive and meditative process that occurs whilst crafting and the reclaiming of discarded beauty. The act of installing and uninstalling was just as magnificent as bearing witness to the imersive effect on others, fully emersed in the entire process. See more

On the side she poses as a Communications Advisor for the Gisborne Distrcit Council in Tairāwhiti on the East Coast of Aotearoa.

She never stops pondering the potential and healing power of creativity in our rapidly changing world following global pandemics and repetitive distructive weather events.
